Poppins Font: the ZIP below holds all 18 font files with 9 static weights and 1,060 glyphs, plus the OFL licence.
Yes — Poppins is free for commercial use, including in apps and client websites you ship
Poppins is released under the SIL Open Font License 1.1 (OFL). You can use it in client work, logos, products you sell, apps and print, without paying and without asking permission.
Poppins comes from the Indian Type Foundry, and it was built as a two-script family from the start: Latin and Devanagari, drawn on the same geometric logic. The Devanagari side was genuinely new when it shipped in 2015 — the first Devanagari face in this genre to arrive with a full weight range. That origin shows in the Latin. Several letters, the ampersand most obviously, are drawn more constructed and rationalist than a typical geometric sans, because they were reasoned out from circles and straight lines rather than inherited from a handwriting model.
We read the license state from the font file itself rather than from a listing. The embedding permission flag (fsType) is 0 — Installable, the least restrictive value in the OpenType specification.

What the OFL license actually lets you do
You can:
- Use Poppins in commercial projects, including client work you bill for
- Use Poppins in a logo or brand identity, and trademark that logo
- Sell products that use Poppins — merchandise, packaging, book covers
- Embed Poppins in websites, apps, games, PDFs and ebooks
- Modify Poppins and redistribute your modified version
You cannot:
- Sell the font file on its own, outside a larger bundled product
- Distribute it without the OFL license file
- Release a modified version under a Reserved Font Name
No attribution is required in your design. The OFL only asks that the license file travels with the font files.

Vietnamese is not fully covered in this file. If you need stacked diacritics such as ế, ộ, ữ and ỹ, test before committing.

Plus 18 further feature tags in the file, mostly stylistic-set and script-specific tables.
One static weight, by design
Poppins ships as a single static weight with no variable axes. That is a design decision rather than a gap — it means you cannot build a weight hierarchy from this family alone, and will need a second face for anything requiring contrast between levels.
A tall x-height (0.548) — drawn to hold at small sizes
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Units per em | 1,000 |
| Ascender | 1,050 |
| Descender | -350 |
| Cap height ratio | 0.698 |
| x-height ratio | 0.548 |
An x-height ratio of 0.548 is high. Large lowercase letters make text look bigger at the same point size and hold up well at small sizes and on low-resolution screens — the trade is that long passages can feel dense.
Right for interfaces, wrong for long reading
Good fit: Interface work, app UI, and branding that needs a clean geometric voice; anything that may later need Devanagari from the same family.
Poor fit: Long-form body text. Geometric sans faces with near-circular bowls tire the eye over paragraphs — use a text-first face for that.
