Dancing script font free download: the ZIP below holds a single font file with a variable weight axis and 643 glyphs, plus the OFL licence.
Yes — Dancing Script is free for commercial use, including on stationery and merchandise you sell
Dancing Script is released under the SIL Open Font License 1.1 (OFL). You can use it in client work, logos, products you sell, apps and print, without paying and without asking permission.
Dancing Script by Impallari Type is a lively casual script where letters bounce and shift size slightly. The caps are large and drop below the baseline. It references 1950s script types deliberately — the weight distribution relates to Murray Hill (Emil Klumpp, 1956) and the bouncing effect to Mistral (Roger Excoffon, 1953). A weight axis was added in November 2019.
We read the license state from the font file itself rather than from a listing. The embedding permission flag (fsType) is 0 — Installable, the least restrictive value in the OpenType specification.

What the OFL license actually lets you do
You can:
- Use Dancing Script in commercial projects, including client work you bill for
- Use Dancing Script in a logo or brand identity, and trademark that logo
- Sell products that use Dancing Script — merchandise, packaging, book covers
- Embed Dancing Script in websites, apps, games, PDFs and ebooks
- Modify Dancing Script and redistribute your modified version
You cannot:
- Sell the font file on its own, outside a larger bundled product
- Distribute it without the OFL license file
- Release a modified version under a Reserved Font Name
No attribution is required in your design. The OFL only asks that the license file travels with the font files.
Inside the file: 643 glyphs and 559 characters

Dancing Script ships 643 glyphs covering 559 Unicode codepoints.
Vietnamese, and 12 other languages in full

Tested against the full alphabets of a reference set of languages, Dancing Script fully covers 13:
Vietnamese · Spanish · French · German · Portuguese · Italian · Polish · Czech · Turkish · Romanian · Hungarian · Dutch · Nordic (da/no/sv)
Vietnamese is fully supported, including stacked diacritics such as ế, ộ, ữ and ỹ — worth checking before you commit, because many free families stop at Latin Extended-A and silently drop them.
Which Unicode blocks those 559 characters cover
| Block | Covered |
|---|---|
| Basic Latin | 95 / 96 |
| Latin-1 Supplement | 96 / 96 |
| Latin Extended-A | 127 / 128 |
| Latin Extended-B | 62 / 208 |
| IPA Extensions | 1 / 96 |
| Latin Extended Additional | 97 / 256 |

Variable axes: 1

- Weight (
wght): 400 to 700, continuous
Because this is a single variable file, every intermediate value is available. One file replaces the whole static weight set, which usually means a smaller total download than shipping three or four static cuts.
A low x-height (0.332) — drawn for display and long reading
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Units per em | 1,000 |
| Ascender | 920 |
| Descender | -280 |
| Cap height ratio | 0.720 |
| x-height ratio | 0.332 |
An x-height ratio of 0.332 is on the low side, typical of a face drawn for display or for long reading passages, where oversized lowercase letters would make text feel cramped.
Right for invitations, wrong for body text
Good fit: Friendly, informal, spontaneous settings — cafe menus, greeting cards, casual logos, social graphics.
Poor fit: Formal invitations and luxury branding, where its casualness undercuts the tone; long text of any kind.
