What actually differs here
The irregularity is drawn in rather than applied. Port Blanc’s strokes vary in weight and angle between characters the way real pen pressure does, instead of repeating one clean stroke model at different rotations — which is what gives most “handwritten” scripts away when you set a full sentence.
The practical consequence is that it holds up at larger sizes, where repeated identical letterforms become obvious. At small sizes the same irregularity costs you legibility, so this is a headline and invitation face, not a body-text one.
A webfont file is included, which is not a given at this price — several scripts in the $10–15 range are desktop-only.
Free alternatives

- Dancing Script — bouncy casual script, the most versatile free option
- Great Vibes — formal calligraphic script, closer to invitation work
Both are cleaner and more regular than Port Blanc, which is exactly the trade-off: free scripts tend to look drawn by a machine.
